Lanthanum is an element that is located on the 3rd family, and the 6th period on the Periodic Table. Its atomic number is 57, while the atomic mass is 138.96. It was discovered by a chemist Carl Gustav Mosander during the year of 1839. Lanthanum was found in Stockholm, Sweden. It is never found in nature as the free element, but Lanthanum is found in the ores monazite sand. Its melting point is at 441.1* Celsius, while the boiling point is 3,464°C. This element contains a lot of physical properties. It's color is white/silver, and it is ductile, meaning that it has to ability to stretch into thin wires. It has a soft makeup, while it is malleable, which means that it can be pounded into thin sheets. Other elements in the same family is Lanthanum include Scandium, Yttrium, Actinium. The element Lanthanum is a Lanthanide, located at the bottom of the Periodic Table. Some compounds that contain it include Lanthanum Phosphate and Lanthanum Bromate.
